HISTORY

The Vashti Initiative was founded in 2020 by a group of survivors who saw the need for more accessible and informed social services for victims of spiritual or religious abuse. Our mission is to provide support and services to those fleeing or transitioning out of an adverse spiritual environment. Today, we do so by providing a variety of services and continuing to build upon them so that we can stay active in helping our community.

EXPECTATIONS

Board members must agree to these expectations:

  • Attend regular quarterly board meetings
  • Provide assistance with events and fundraisers
  • Participate in recruitment of volunteers and new board members
  • Review financial decisions and program operations with the Executive Director and board members
  • Serve as an ambassador of The Vashti Initiative – promoting our work and facilitating working relationships with others in the industry

EXPERIENCE

We are seeking those with lived experience as a survivor of spiritual or religious based trauma. The following are some other points of experience that will be considered when reviewing board member applications:

  • Volunteering with a non-profit
  • Working in a non-profit or social service agency
  • Serving on a board or a similar oversight committee
  • Fundraising and donor relations
  • Advocating or working towards victims rights
  • Education around spiritual and religious abuse
