The Vashti Initiative wants to announce that we are offering support for anyone who is processing their experiences in light of Let Us Prey: A Ministry of Scandals, a new two-part documentary from Investigation Discovery that aired Nov. 25 and 26, and is now available on various streaming platforms.
“Let Us Prey” focuses on the systemic abuse within the Independent Fundamental Baptist church (IFB) movement, similar to abuses that were not reported or covered up which have been documented within the Roman Catholic Church and Southern Baptist Convention recently as well.
We understand that much of what is covered in the documentary, like spiritual abuse and sexual assault, may be especially triggering for IFB survivors along with all survivors of spiritual abuse.
If you are seeking community with whom to process these feelings, The Vashti Initiative is hosting a spiritual trauma peer support group meeting this Sunday, Dec. 3, that will be focused on this documentary. Anyone who has experienced religious or spiritual abuse is welcome to attend.
Vashti Initiative also posts survivor stories on our website, where you can find stories shared by other survivors, or even submit your own.
About Us
The Vashti Initiative is a volunteer-driven organization led mostly by fellow survivors of religious or spiritual abuse. We provide support to those experiencing the effects of spiritual or religious-based trauma, including those harmed by religious cults, abusive religious institutes, or other adverse spiritual settings. Our mission is to empower and assist those fleeing and transitioning out of religious and spiritual abuse.
